Hi Jason,

I really like the way you structured your thoughts about Guvera, it was concise and thoughtful. It has been a year since you posted this blog and Guvera is out of the BETA stage and has made many improvements, of which I think many are pretty recognizable. I was wondering if you would be interested in writing another blog on the updated version of the site? Hope you chose to do so!

Hi Jason,

Guvera sounds like it's really on the right track here, and the suggestions you've included (alongside the issue of artists wanting money for their works) sounds pretty similar to Last.fm - a subject I've just wrapped up on over on my blog. Forums, chat and building a sense of user community seems to be the overlying focus, and a big thumbs up for creating a free service.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the comment, and I like your idea. I know you haven't expanded on the idea, but it got me thinking:

- Would an unsigned artist want to seek money? If so, I'm not sure it would take off as well as you are basically asking for a Sponsor to pay for your song which might not get that much coverage, compared to if it was on the top 50 charts... BUT

- If the artist doesn't seek money and just exposure, I like the idea a lot!

It would mean that once all the credit runs out for a particular channel, there will still be some free songs to download, which will increase your exposure. This also opens up to a 'unsigned artist' channel available to all...

Not sure if I mentioned it before but if Guvera implemented a 'chart' based system, - which i think they should. There could also be a 'free downloads' chart, which keeps people coming back (that have used all their credit), and helps out new artist get exposure. A bit like what Triple M do/ have done?

Do you think there is scope to open this up to unsigned artists also?

Hope so.

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your comment it is appreciated. I look forward to testing out Guvera more and it is great to know that the effort put in was noticed. I'll try to contribute more to the team as updates become available and I have free time so it is a better service for all.

Hi Jason

just to let you know that I found out about your blog Via Guvera - or rather one of the 'investment backers' behind the company (and yes I have also registered and have a financial interest in the company.

Yes - Guvera are aware of your comments and are very appreciative. I think (hope?) you will find some of your coments and ideas noted and will be taken into account before full launch - and espcially before launch into the US market due in Feb / March 2010.

The music available to Guvera is being rolled out progressively - i.e. the full catalogue is not on the system just yet. I know that they are in negotiation with one (i.e the final) major company for acess to their music and this shold be on line by the middle of the year. This will give Guvera access to all 4 major US based recoreding companies, as well as the largest indi company as well.

Basically - keep an eye on its development, and yes, let Guvera know what is going well what is not, and see what happens.

Cheers

Very comprehensive evaluation. I think Guvera seem to have a great deal of potential indeed! I hope everything works out well and legal downloading becomes a hit!
