This got me thinking about the importance of creating a strong brand name. A brand, an image, something which stands out and makes consumers wa
nt it! There are some very good examples of how companies brand themselves well such as: Coca-Cola, MacDonalds, Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Apple are another great example, but not only do they manage their company brand well they create a very strong product brand for each of the product lines they sell. One way they do that is by engage an emotional response. They associate a great experience, easy to use and a product that makes your life more enjoyable with it. So how quickly did it take for you to look at the picture of a person’s silhouette, bright background, with white head phones before you realised it was for Apple, and then related to iPod / iTunes? I bet that you would of picked up on it before I asked the question (maybe I should of removed the iPod wording).
I would love to hear your thoughts on how you have created your own brand. Any stories in how branding work in your favour when you least expected it?

Hahaha, any reason to post XKCD is reason good enough. I had to lookup GitHub though. As someone in network administration (and support) their latest one is so close to the truth. http://xkcd.com/627/
Here is the interesting thing though. You promote Apple as a good example as strong branding. Indeed, they are probably the best example of branding in current times.
But, it appears to be me that their rabid control of their brand, their image and their products has reached the end of its life. Everyday there is a new news article relating to Apples caustic, abrasive and closed practices on the sydney morning herald website (technology section). These are generally generated by blog posts being elevated to the mainstream media. They are all in direct relation to Apples closed itunes and itstore and iphone apps, Apples poor responce to product failures and their closed behavour to direct competition or compeditor integration.
With the way communication is going now, can they continue to get away with generating so much bad press?
